Hitting the wall on your natural hair journey part 1

Distant runners sometimes will experience "hitting a wall."  They have a goal they are trying to reach and while running they hit a point where they can't go any further. They stop and can not run another single step.  Have you hit the point of dreading the length of time it takes to detangle?  Are you tired of the endless search for the "perfect product."  The "novelty" of being natural has worn off and now you need a "pick me up" or a boost to help with the slump you are experiencing.  This is year 4 of my natural journey and I hit that point earlier this year. Then God led me to some information that has saved time, money and resulted in amazing hair. I have added/removed several things from my regime.  I will use three separate post to list them, don't want to put to much info in one post.  The book titled Curly girl method, good, good stuff in this book.  Lorainne has curly/textured hair and has awesome tips on how to manage our curly hair. I will list some of the things that I have learned from her book.  As well as a few other tidbits that came from our fellow youtubers.

Stop using shampoo-I know this is not new to the natural community but for me it was and my hair is less tangled and not stripped of the natural oils. Alternatives are co-washing with conditioner, of course us naturals know about that. A mud wash by Terresentials is also an option. It is really brown as you would expect mud to appear. Made up of clay and other natural oils when applied it removes the impurities from the scalp and hair.

Stop detangling with hair tools! This means no "denmen brush." Use your fingers and a nice slippery conditioner. For myself and my oldest daughter I will use a wide tooth comb sparingly but that is the extent of my styling tools.

Lavender is a wonderful essential oil to have on hand. Spray bottle filled with water and add a few drops of lavender. Use lavender mist to moisturize and revitalize your curls during the day. Oh and it also keeps the bugs away in the summer,we spray it on or arms and legs.
Dilute lavender with water and spray a paper towel and rub your scalp to cleanse.

Use a leave-in conditioner -this most of us know.

Henna as a natural hair color.  Started to see a little gray so wanted a natural hair color. Love the results my gray is now a translucent red.

The obsession with long natural hair!

Okay, so, how about I got a comment that stated "my hair should be longer than it currently is because I have been natural for over three years."  So this question illustrates some peoples clear obsession with length over the health of hair.  Back in the day, I used to be one of those people.  When I sat in my stylist's chair I was not to fond of getting my hair trimmed. However, upon listening to her advise, I saw my hair grow down my back.  This was due to reguarly shampooing/conditioning and trimming. Other factors were eating a moderately healthy diet and exercising.  Fast forward to now, as a licensed cosmetologist, regular trimming is still a must for healthy hair.  I have seen some naturals that do not trim and if that works for them, great.  I personally, know my hair texture and what my hair is capable of doing.  At it's best it will curl up for me with nice springy curls which allow me to wear "puffs, twist outs, wash n go's and when the mood hits me... a flat iron style."  When it is not properly maintained with regular conditioning and trimming my styling options are limited.

My husband took my puff & I out to eat!

After a good trim my puff has fluff!

I'm on a date with my husband and decided to wear my hair in a "puff."  Yeah, I took a quick call but after that he had my undivided attention.
